Important Disclaimer
This guide is for general information only and does not constitute legal advice. Laws may change. Always verify requirements with your local licensing authority or a qualified legal professional before purchasing any arms.
The Arms Act, 1959
All arms transactions in India are governed by The Arms Act, 1959 and The Arms Rules, 2016. As India's oldest licensed dealership, we operate in full compliance with both.
Under Section 3 of the Arms Act, no person can acquire, have in his possession, or carry any firearm or ammunition unless he holds a valid licence.
Air rifles and air pistols that generate energy below 20 joules (approximately 15 ft/lb) are currently exempt from licensing requirements under Rule 3 of the Arms Rules, 2016. However, high-powered PCPs and spring rifles that exceed this threshold do require a valid Firearms Certificate.
Do You Need a Licence?
Low-power airguns (below 20 joules muzzle energy) — NO LICENCE REQUIRED. This covers most sub-12 ft/lb airguns used for pest control, target practice, and entry-level sport.
High-power airguns (above 20 joules) — FIREARMS CERTIFICATE REQUIRED. This includes most Olympic-grade PCPs, high-powered spring rifles in .22, and any airgun modified to exceed this limit.
We provide a free licence consultation with every purchase. Our team will confirm whether your chosen model requires documentation before completing the sale. We never dispatch arms without verifying your status.
How to Obtain a Firearms Certificate
1. Application: Visit your local District Magistrate (DM) or Commissioner of Police (metro cities) and submit Form I under the Arms Rules, 2016.
2. Verification: Police will conduct a character verification at your residential address. Typically takes 30–60 days.
3. Approval: If approved, your Firearms Certificate (FC) is issued specifying the category of arms you may possess.
4. Purchase: Present your valid FC at time of purchase. We will record it in our register as required by law and report the transaction to the licensing authority.
5. Renewal: FCs are typically valid for 3 years and must be renewed. We send renewal reminders to all our customers.
